Chosen 1 Generation (C1G), owners are Adrienne Ballard, Byron Ballard and Derryck Jeffrey. Adrienne Ballard was the visionary that dreamed of creating an organization that cared about the development of athletes on and off the court. Her calling was to impact the lives of the youth through transformational programs and services utilizing a 3 pillar approach 1. Education 2. Citizenship and 3. Athletics.  Adrienne Ballard is focused on providing quality mentorship, coaching and training. Her goal is developing the youth not only in sports but teaching the life lessons and skills that will help develop them to be a positive role model in society.

C1G is focused on unlocking your talent and helping athletics reach the next level. Our team is invested in improving and developing athletics so you can compete on the collegiate and professional level. Adrienne has been a servant in the community for over 24 years, using organized sports, as an outlet to guide, teach and train life lessons on and off the court.  Our organization believes in order to build a strong team you must have a family atmosphere.

Our Visionary 

Adrienne Ballard founder, owner and CEO of Chosen 1 Generation, LLC. Adrienne was born and raised in Chesterfield County. Adrienne a 3 sport athletic graduate from Matoaca High School, Chesterfield VA where she earned an abundance of awards for athletics as well as academics. Adrienne furthered her education and athletic career at Eastern Mennonite University where she played 2 sports and later transferred to Strayer University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.

Adrienne is a military veteran, she served her country proudly in the US Army. She is currently retired from the Federal Government (Defense Logistics Agency).

Adrienne blessed with a vision of impacting the lives of youth and young adults of the community through mentoring and athletics. A faithful servant of the community for well over 24 years. Adrienne has a love for sports but her passion for the success of our youth stands out among everything. She is carrying on the torch of her grandmother.

Adrienne currently holds several certification within the fitness industry and is currently enrolled in the graduate program at Virginia State University where she is studying Sports Management.

Byron Ballard VP and Co-owner of Chosen 1 Generation, LLC. Byron was born and raised in Gates County, North Carolina. Byron served in the Army for over 23 years. Byron was blessed to meet Adrienne and see the vision and impact she had to support the community. Her vision inspired him to stand beside her and build what you see today. We not only built a program but built a relationship and she is now my wife. Byron has a Master’s Degree through Trident University in Homeland Security and Bachelor’s in Business Administration with minor Human Resource.

Derryck was born and raised in Key West, FL. Derryck graduated from Key West High School and furthered his education at Florida A&M University. He has a Bachelor in Science in Organization Leadership.

He is an Army Veteran serving 20 years, while playing basketball for the Army at various duty stations. He is currently living in Chester, VA, since retiring in 2012. He has been coaching for 15 years in the community in various sports to help the youth reach their highest potential to achieve their goals.

He is currently fulling his dream of impacting the community by helping the youth and young adults through Chosen 1 Generation. He continues to grow and provide guidance to the youth and young adults to prepare them for the challenges of life.

Operation Manager

Shasta U. Mays, born in North Charleston, SC. Shasta has successfully served over 22 years in the US Army as a supply logistical specialist and recently retired. She currently resides in Chester, VA. She currently has an associate in General Studies and is continuing her education in Logistics. Her current job is a Chosen 1 Generation (C1G) Operations Manager, and while she resides in this program Shasta will help with assisting the C1G program to maintain their success story.

Basketball Director

Originally from Martinsville, VA (the Preston Community), where he attended Magna Vista High School. He’s an alumnus of Concord University where he played basketball for the Mountain Lions and earned his degree in Health & Physical education. He has been coaching at the high school level for 17 years and has held positions as an assistant and head coach.  Over the course of his career, Keyóde has had the opportunity to coach with and against some great coaches and players. He continues to grow as a person and a leader who is always trying to better himself and those around him. He is currently the head coach at division 6 Thomas Dale High School.

Basketball Trainer

Waymond Wright originally from Raleigh, North Carolina. He attended Word of God Christian Academy and Upper Room Christian Academy throughout his high school years. He earned an Associates of Arts degree, as well as played at Wake Technical Community College for one year.

Waymond was a Juco All American before having to redshirt his sophomore year due to a gruesome injury. Waymond willed his way back and earned a scholarship to play at Virginia State University in 2015-2018.

Throughout his time at VSU Waymond played a vital part in winning two CIAA championships under Coach Lonnie Blow and Assistant Drew Williamson as a player starting at the point guard position. He later became a graduate assistant after his time of playing at VSU. He was very successful playing on the TBT tournament team with team CP3.

Waymond earned his Bachelor of Science in HPERD with a minor in sport management and recreation. He is currently in graduate school at Virginia State University studying Sports Management as well as a Graduate Assistant for the athletic department.

Basketball Trainer

Born and raised in Rahway/Plainfield NJ. Rahway HS Graduate
VUU 1993- BA

Michael has coached semi-pro,  college (NCAA Division III)  high school basketball in six different states (AZ, KS, NM, NJ, OH, VA)   which  he has  coached in state playoffs  in three of those states ( AZ, OH, NJ).

His overall commitment is encouraging student-athletes, by using sports as a tool to inspire them to achieve in life.

Basketball Trainer

Philip Owens II is originally from Champaign, Illinois moving to Indianapolis, Indiana where he began to make a name for himself in the Basketball world.
Philip graduated from Bishop Sullivan High School where he earned a plethora of awards for his dominant play in the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools (TCIS). Philip received Player of the Year at BSHS as well as 1st Team All TCIS just to name a couple.
Philip received a full scholarship to play at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise where he became an immediate impact taking a big leadership as a true Freshman. He led the team in scoring his Freshman and Sophomore year then made the decision to Transfer to Virginia State University to continue his collegiate career 2016-2019 (Including a RedShirt Season).

Throughout his time at VSU Philip played a part in winning 75 games losing only 16 games and winning the 2019 CIAA Championship under Coach Lonnie Blow and Assistant Coach Drew Williamson. He later became a Graduate Assistant for VSU after his time playing there.

Philip earned his Bachelor of Science in HPER with a minor in Sport Administration. He is currently in Graduate School at Virginia State University studying Sport Management as well as Graduate Assistant for the Graduate Admissions department.

Strength & Conditioning Director

Track and Field Director

Jamarri Price has been the head coach at Thomas Dale High School in Chesterfield County for six years. He is a USATF Level 1 certified coach with a degree in exercise science. He was a member of the VCU Track and Field team from 2004-2007 as a sprinter/jumper. During his coaching career at Thomas Dale, he coached the boys and girls to conference champions in 2015. The boys and girls teams were also regional runner up in 2018. In competition, 27 athletes have received all state honors since 2015. Coach Price has also had the honor of coaching athletes to national records and All-American honors. Similarly, he coached five athletes to the VA top 50 All-time list. In 2015, Price was named the Boys and Girls Conference 3 Coach of the Year. In 2017, he was awarded with the Girls Conference 3 Coach of the Year
